Dr. Zane Zelsman opened his practice in 1980 at Markham Rd. and Hwy 7. After seven years at that location, he relocated to the Hillcroft Plaza, Unit 6, in 1987.
Dr. Shelli Karp started her practice in 1984, at the corner of Fenton Dr. and Steeles, and relocated across the road to the Ashcott St. and Steeles plaza in 2001.
Dr. Karp and Dr. Zelsman ran their practices for over 30 years, patiently waiting for their son, David, to graduate from dental school in 2018. Their dream was to work together at the offices, while David slowly took over the care of the patients, and they moved towards retirement. After Dr. Karp’s sudden passing in late 2017, Dr. David Zelsman took over both practices in early 2018.
Shortly after taking over, David relocated Zelsman Dental Markham to Unit 4 in the same Hillcroft Plaza. This was an exciting move for the Zelsman Dental team as well as for the patients, as the new office is bigger, brighter, and more patient friendly. Through this transition we were fortunate to have such loyal staff, many of which have been with us for over 10-20 years.
David has been fortunate to have many years of mentorship by Dr. Zane Zelsman and Dr. Shelli Karp. He has spent countless hours discussing all aspects of dentistry with them. He strongly values everything he has learned from them both, and plans to continue to practice dentistry with their core values at heart. David is thrilled to have his family working so closely with him at the office. In addition to his father, he works with his sister, Jordana, and his wife, Nicole.
In June 2020, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, David reopened only the Markham location. This bigger office was able to better accommodate social distancing, and allowed all the staff, and David to work under one roof. After a successful temporary merger, David decided to permanently integrate both patient bases into the 5 Hillcroft location. The new office has expanded to more operatories, and is able to safely accommodate all of the patients of both offices. You will see familiar faces at the Markham office, as all of the Scarborough team members have migrated over as well!
